Monday 21st June 2010 Day 9

Today we went to Falmouth and the first thing we did was to get another GPS as the other one stopped working. This one is much better and easier to use. The roundabouts with the motorways are very difficult. Heather needs to use the maps as well and Cookie is doing a great job.
We looked around the harbour and then went to Pendennis Castle which also gave us great views of Falmouth.
Next we went to Wendron to find some more ancestors. This time on our mums side and we found our 4th great grandfather which was very exciting.
From then it was on to Lands End at the bottom of England and Sennen harbour.
We then went back to Truro.

Sunday20th June 2010 Day 8

After leaving Salisbury we headed towards Plymouth and had a cream tea before walking around the harbour.
There were a lot of people there as they had had a fun run/walk for cancer.
We then went on to Truro where we were going to stay a couple nights.
We checked in to another nice b and b and then went into town along a street which had buildings designed by one of Heathers and my ancestors.
After tea we walked around the river and town

Saturday 19th June 2010 Day 7

Today we walked around Saisbury and saw the cathedral before heading for Andover to have lunch with a lady Heather has been doing family history with. After we had a beautiful lunch we went for a walk through their property and around the village. It was very quiet and lovely to walk around.
On our way home we had our dinner at The Harvester and then headed back into Salisbury for our usual evening walk.Everything is much quieter and it is still light till after 10pm.

Saturday 19th June 2010 Day7

Before I tell you about today I need to tell you about the photos from the day before.
We saw Stonehenge which was very interesting listening to the audio guides as you walk around.
We then went to Westbury to see the White Horse which is painted (now concreted)on the Hill. This is one of the largest. They go back many years and are dotted around the countyside.
The next place we saw was Avebury which had stones around the village. This was a very pretty place with lots of old buildings and Avebury Manor with sprawling gardens.
From there we went to Pitton to see where the Cooks came from.
While we were at the church looking some local ladies interested in family history went out of their way to help Heather. They even invited us over for a drink as they very having a community bbq.
We then had our dinner at the pub called The Silver Plough. The boys had a World Cup Soccer buffet.
Heather and I had lasagne.( we seem to choose the same food all the time.)
We then headed back to Salisbury.

Thursday 17th June 2010 Day 5

After a nice breakfast we left Hastings and headed towards Battle. This town is where the 1066 Battle of Hastings happened and we saw the battle fields and the Abbey.
We had something to eat before we made our way to Salisbury as it was a bit of a drive. (We have been having cream teas or devonshire teas as we know them).
We stopped along the way for a break at maccas and had a drink and icecream.
Then we arrived in Salisbury and booked in at our b and b which we were going to be there for 3 nights. After we had tea at the local pub we went for a walk to Old Sarum (which was were old Salisbury used to be.) The views on top of the hill were amazing and you could see a long way. Some of the photos show pig farms (which are very big here) and some crop circles.
I am trying to catch up with the blog. We have not had the internet in some places and other times Im just too tired as everynight we go out on a walk around the towns we are staying at which is really good. It stays light here till about 10pm. We are having a great time and seeing so much.
